How The Avengers Team Wants Fans To View Marvel Films 30 Years From Now

On the eve of the release of Avengers: Endgame, there has been a lot of looking back at the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the last 11 years and 22 movies Marvel Studios has done something nobody has ever done before, bringing the cross-title continuity of comic books onto the silver screen. In addition to simply succeeding in that effort, the movies have been incredibly successful. But how will history judge this incredible accomplishment? The original six Avengers and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige were recently asked that question and they had a lot of feelings on the topic. Jeremy Renner, for one, wonders how the MCU's success could potentially change the industry decades down the road...

I wonder what the ripple effect of it will be in 30 years. 'Look what Feiges done!' How do you do a series of films? Twenty-two films! How do you do that?

It's very likely that we will see a ripple effect down the line, considering that we largely already have. Following the beginning of the MCU, we saw Warner Bros. and DC follow suit with their own collection of comic book heroes. We've also seen a cinematic universe spring up around Godzilla and King Kong and an attempt at launching one around Universal's classic movie monsters, who arguably invented the concept back in the 1940s.

While other cinematic universes have met with varying degrees of success, and none have been as successful as Marvel, it seems unlikely that nobody else will ever try to launch one again. The opportunity for gain is simply too great. The cinematic universe gives the impression that otherwise unconnected stories need to be seen by fans who don't want to miss any elements of the larger storyline. This means that even when two and three films a year are released, fans are off to see them in the theaters, even if they don't necessarily focus on characters that fans care about.

Of course, just because other studios will almost certainly continue to try to emulate the success of the MCU, doesn't mean they will be successful. Chris Evans tells EW that what Kevin Feige and Marvel have done is something that nobody will be able to do again.

Im always amazed with the ability that Kevin has had to house this giant tapestry of all these woven plotlines. I just dont think its ever going to happen again. I dont think anyone has the ability to launch all these different rockets, and then years down the road have them all explode at once. Its just the planning and the care and the subtlety to it.

That's really the question. Can something like this happen again? Can even Marvel Studios do it again? While Marvel movies will continue after Avengers: Endgame, we have no idea what they will look like. Endgame is designed to be and endpoint of sorts. How much of the story will continue, how much the focus will shift to other characters or stories we still don't know. The MCU won't be starting at zero but it may very well be starting fresh, meaning even Marvel may have difficulty emulating its own success.




In the past 10 years of Marvel Studios, the there have been over 20 superhero movies, including several team-ups and, most recently, the beginning of the end with Avengers: Infinity War.

Steven Spielberg And Leonardo DiCaprio Have Found Their Next Movie Together

The last time Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio worked together was on 2002's Catch Me If You Can, where DiCaprio played young conman Frank Abagnale Jr. The movie, which was based on a true story, was met with excellent critical reception and earned two Academy Award nominations, but since then Spielberg and DiCaprio haven't collaborated on anything together. However, that may soon change, as the director and actor are now looking to reunite for a biopic about Civil War general and 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant.

According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio are in early talks to work together on the Ulysses Grant biopic, which DiCaprio is producing with Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson, and Spielberg is being eyed to direct. The movie will be based off the Grant biography written by Ron Chernow, and it's being adapted into a screenplay by Robin Hood's David James Kelly. Assuming Spielberg signs a deal to helm the biopic, it will allow him to explore the American Civil War again, which he previously did with 2012's Lincoln. Interestingly enough, Grant isn't the only U.S. president who DiCaprio is on deck to play, as it was reported last year that he play Theodore Roosevelt in a biopic directed by Martin Scorsese.

Born in 1822 and passing away in 1885, Ulysses Grant was one of the most famous figures in American Civil War history, winning the battle of Shiloh and the Vicksburg campaign, among others, for the Union. His presidency lasted from 1869 to 1877, and towards the end of his life, he worked with acclaimed author Mark Twain on his memoirs. He's previously been portrayed on screen by actors like Donald Crisp, Harry Morgan, Kevin Kline, Jared Harris and Victor Slezak.

While this Ulysses Grant movie is reportedly a priority, and it would be great to see Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio teaming up again, scheduling will make it difficult for the two of them to work on this project. DiCaprio is currently gearing up to star in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in addition to the Theodore Roosevelt biopic, he's also set to play Leonardo da Vinci in a movie about the artist/inventor. As for Spielberg, he's working on Indiana Jones 5 next, and once that's done, he intends to direct the West Side Story remake, not to mention he's also been bouncing around helming The Kidnapping of Edgar Mortaro and DC's Blackhawk movie (which he's already set produce). So even if these two talents are able to carve out time for that Grant project, we may have to wait a while before it's fully realized.

Remember 2017's Fyre Festival flop? What was marketed as an exclusive music festival brimming with hot acts, celebrity sightings and fine glamping accommodations was actually a terrifying Lord of the Flies-like situation as concertgoers were not treated to a single music act, but were provided FEMA tents as shelter and "treated" to a piece of melted cheese on bread.

Fyre Festival was unquestionably a disaster and now the subject of two recent documentaries: Netflix's FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Hulu's Fyre Fraud, which were released just a few days apart from one another. Both docs delve into the festival's inefficacy to build the event promised to its guests, and rapper Ja Rule, who co-founded Fyre Festival with Billy McFarland, has now taken to Twitter to share his take on the films' commentary. Here's how he put it:

I love how ppl watch a doc and think they have all the answers. I had an amazing vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!!! I would NEVER SCAM or FRAUD anyone what sense does that make???

The implied vision of Fyre Festival was to to offer visitors a dreamy vacation on the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas for two weekends in April and May. Music acts such as Disclosure, Blink 182 and Migos were set to perform, and celebrity promoters Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner brought the illusion of star status to the new event.

However, the reality was that thousands of guests, some of whom paid $100,000 to attend, found themselves stranded the island without proper food, water and accommodations, the musicians pulled out last minute and the famed models sent out apologies for their involvement in the shady festival.

As the rapper defends his intentions for his festival, in one scene in FYRE, when the team meets to discuss the situation after the festival, Ja Rule says "that's not fraud, that's not fraud. False advertising, maybe."

However, his partner, Billy McFarland, was convicted with six years of jail time for defrauding investors of over $27 million by presenting false documents to inflate his net worth and the value of his company, Fyre Media.

Ja Rule also took to Twitter to accuse his former business partner, who is interviewed in the Hulu documentary, of being paid to appear in the film. Here's what he said:

According Fyre Fraud's director Jenner Furst's comments to The Ringer, this is true. Billy McFarland was paid an undisclosed amount for exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and consent to an eight-hour interview for the documentary.

Ja Rule also points to the media organization Fuck Jerry, which did the marketing for Fyre Festival of sharing a cut of money for the documentary as well since Elliot Tebele, the creator of Jerry Media/FuckJerry, executive produced Netflix's FYRE.

The rapper said he believes the money they made on the documentary should have gone to the people of the Bahamas in reference to Exuma Point Bar and Grille restauranteur Maryann Rolle, who catered to those stranded at Fyre Festival. Rolle has said she used $50,000 of her own money to pay staff to help those left without proper food accommodations from the founders.

Ja Rule continued with this tweet:

I too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!!!

The rapper also claims he has the receipts to prove that blame on the disaster of Fyre Festival wasn't his own doing. You can check out FYRE on Netflix and Fyre Fraud on Hulu, both available for streaming now.
