Tom Hardy Shares Venoms IMAX Poster, And Its Awesome
Having first left his mark on the superhero movie world by playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and later having to drop out of playing Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad, Tom Hardy is now jumping back into the genre by playing Eddie Brock in Venom. We're only a few weeks away from the Spider-Man-less tale from arriving, which means promotion and marketing are being kicked up a notch or two, and Hardy is helping plug its release. Taking to social media, the actor shared the below Venom poster advertising for audiences to check it out in IMAX.
Say what you will about this version of Venom, the movie has done an impressive job of faithfully adapting his look from the comics, and this newest poster that Tom Hardy posted on his Instagram page is all kinds of awesome. Sure, that tongue is questionable no matter what the medium, but compared to the Venom we got in Spider-Man 3, this is a big improvement. And even if a Venom movie wasn't being made, this would still be a great piece of artwork that could be used as a comic book cover. Of course, it's not surprising that Venom is being screened in IMAX given how chock full of special effects it is. October isn't usually a month where major blockbusters come out, so Venom will be available for folks looking for something a little more action-packed during the Halloween season, and seeing it in IMAX will provide the crispest of visuals.
Unlike in the comics, Spider-Man will not play any role in Eddie Brock's origin story in Venom, though that's not to say the two characters still couldn't clash in the future. That said, Venom is still drawing heavily from Eddie's comic book roots, namely by adapting the "Lethal Protector" and "Planet of the Symbiotes" storylines. While investigating the mysterious Life Foundation, Eddie comes into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with him and gives him special powers, but only if they share the same body. In the midst of keeping his sanity intact, Eddie will use this new "relationship" to take the fight to the Life Foundation and prevent the organization's other symbiotes (like Riot) from breaking free. Along with Tom Hardy, Venom's cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson and Ron Cephas Jones.
